We are available for face-to-face counseling here at the college or telephonic counseling at your convenience. Face to Face Appointments
Office hours from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays

Telephonic Appointments
Hours 5pm to 8pm on Fridays

What to Expect

During your initial appointment, you will be asked several questions that will help us determine the most appropriate care for you. Recommendations will be shared with you at the close of the session.

Counseling approaches will include:
  • applying cognitive behavioral skills (the way we think and process thoughts)
  • applying dialectical behavioral skills
    • improving an individual's ability to accept and be present in the current moment
    • helps to change and regulate intense emotions that cause problems in a person's life,
    • help a person to communicate with others in a way that is assertive, maintains self-respect and strengthens relationships

The areas to be addressed in counseling are:
Confidential non-medical counseling to provide students with support as they tackle life challenges in balancing school, home and work.

Counseling Topics:
  • Time management (wasting time/procrastinating)
  • Conflict resolution
  • Stress management
  • Improving relationships at home and work
  • Assisting students in setting goals and creating action plans to address concerns with: academics and social problems

Counseling will not address active suicidal or homicidal thoughts, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse, or serious mental health conditions.

Confidentiality

Student Counseling Services (SCS) employees are entrusted with maintaining the confidentiality of those students seeking services. SCS is responsible for the confidentiality of student counseling and educational records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
